About
Bruce Bailey

Bruce Bailey has been active in contemporary art for several decades through collecting, curating, and institutional collaboration. Based in Ontario, his work spans Canada, the United States, and Europe, with a focus on supporting artists and contributing to museum initiatives.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Queen’s University and earned a law degree from Dalhousie University. He was called to the bar in Ontario through the Law Society of Upper Canada and later obtained a Master of Laws from Columbia University. His early professional career included work as an international lawyer and investment banker before transitioning into the arts.

Bailey founded Bruce Bailey Fine Art Projects as a platform for organizing exhibitions and working directly with artists. Through this initiative, he has curated exhibitions featuring artists such as Kent Monkman, Peter Doig, Ryan McGinley, and Christian Jankowski. These exhibitions have contributed to early visibility and institutional engagement for participating artists.

His institutional involvement includes serving on the Art Acquisition Committee for Non-Canadian Art After 1900 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts from 2010 to 2021 and participation in the Chairman’s Council at the Whitney Museum of American Art from 2001 to 2008. He has also contributed to initiatives associated with the National Gallery of Canada and other cultural organizations.

Internationally, he established Espacio Bruce Bailey in Barcelona, a nonprofit gallery and artist residency program that supports artists through exhibitions and cross-cultural exchange. His work demonstrates an ongoing commitment to connecting Canadian artists with global audiences.
